I have a little artiste on my hands!  One day a couple months ago Paul called me into the living room to show me our little Phoenix laying on the floor, crayon in hand, coloring in a storybook.  We excused the fact he was scribbling in a book because we were just so amazed!  Ever since then, Phoenix has really loved coloring. He’s very serious about it too…like the photo above, he...

So.  I have officially been alone with the boys today for, oh, 18 hours or so!  To say I’m going a little insane would be an understatement!  We tried to make the most of it.  Went outside for a good while, read some books, watched some ridiculous Youtube clips (Zion and Phoenix laughed SO HARD at this one!)  Neither boy really napped today, which was just fabulous.  Zion and I put Phoenix...

Wordless(ish) Wednesday: Post-Nap Snuggles
Yesterday, Zion woke up from a nice long nap, but he still couldn’t shake the sleepies.  He came and curled up in my lap (an increasingly difficult thing to do considering he’s over half my height already) and fortunately I had my camera right beside me.  I have to cherish these moments while I can. This is what he used to look like laying on Mama’s lap:

Infant Massage: Or "I, loooooove, yoooou"!
Way back 5 years ago I was pregnant with Zion, and amidst a full load of classes and working retail in the evenings, I was voraciously taking in any bit of reading on infants and parenting that I could find.  I wanted to be a prepared mama!    One day Paul and I went to this tiny library on the North Shore of Massachusetts for a book sale they were having.  As I was looking around I came across...

P.S. Need some cuteness in your life?
Just saw these photos that Paul took of the boys the other morning…whoa cute! {Can always guarantee some big smiles from this kid when Daddy’s around!} {Cutest 4 year old ever…even with morning eyes and peanut butter on his face!}

My thoughts are kind of scattered everywhere today.  Doing a lot of home administration kinds of things: creating a new budget, sorting mail, writing down some goals for the next 9 months.  Since living with a teacher, I feel like every new school year is January 1st all over again…a chance for new beginnings, to set life aright.  I’ve been doing this for four years now; since Paul...

Sacred Sunday: Thoughts from Anne Lamott
When I don’t know what to say it’s always good to go back to someone who has always inspired me…inspired this whole blog, in fact! Here’s some favorites I’ve bookmarked from Anne Lamott (according to www.goodreads.com, so hopefully they’re accurate, and I apologize for not having exact references!) “Your problem is how you are going to spend this one...

Phoenix, Prince of Paci's
So we’ve had this little love affair going on in our house for 16 months now, between Phoenix…..and his pacifier! From the days when it took up half his face… It’s gone with us everywhere.  Sleeping soundly on the beach with it tucked in his mouth… and heading out to his first football game. It’s coordinated with his other accessories (naturally!) ...

Wordless(ish) Wednesday: You Cannot Lose my Love
This is a song I heard years ago, but didn’t have quite the same meaning or effect for me until I had my own little ones.  Now I’ve held them and swayed them to sleep many a night while singing this song.  This is the kind of love I strive to have for my children.  I hope no matter what happens to them in life, no matter what they do, no matter what the future holds, I will love...

Goodbye Summer
{Father’s Day, 2011} We all know summer is not really over, especially down here in the sunny South; but today marks the end of summer break for Paul, who returns to his school today to get ready for teaching another year.  It was a bittersweet morning.  I could tell Paul was ready for it this year, there was a bounce in his step that I hadn’t seen in years previous.  There were a...

Happiness is Eva: Inspiring Little Readers →
Just had to reblog this post from Happiness is Eva.  I’ve loved reading Amber’s “Modern Day Baby Book” to her daughter, Eva (who is beyond adorable, by the way!  Can we arrange something with her and Phoenix please?)  This post caught my eye though as books are definitely a passion for both Paul and I, and teaching our sons to love them has been so much fun!  Enjoy, and...

Milk for Thought: Latch On America!
A couple months ago a friend of mine sent me a link on Facebook to the Milk for Thought website.  I skimmed through the page linked to me, which was a request form for this giant pink bus to visit your town…all in the name of breastfeeding awareness.  I was vaguely intrigued, but kind of forgot about it to be honest!  Then two days ago I went up to Chapel Hill to Women’s Birth and...

Sisters...Sisters...there were never such devoted...
Tonight once the boys were in bed I got the itch to do something girly.  I took a long shower, enjoying all the scents of new body wash and face scrub.  When I got out I slathered on my new face mask (this one from B&BW if you’re interested, it’s amazing!) and then sauntered into the living room to ask Paul if he felt like joining me and my little beauty ritual.  He first looked...

Happy Saturday, Love Phoenix & Mama
So Phoenix and I have been pretty much on our own all day, since Zion and Dad have soooo much better stuff to do like play soccer and go to cookouts and who knows what else.  (“We have to do some big boy stuff, Mom”, so Zion says!)  In my efforts to keep this little guy entertained I turned to the trusty ole webcam.  Back in his days of endless crying I read somewhere that if you...
